"What are the YRGs up to this time?"
It Is Girl Scout Cookie Time Again!!!
The Yellow Ribbon Girls and our faithful supporters are again collecting and shipping
Girl Scout cookies to the deployed troops.
The Pittsburgh Girl Scout Council have collected 25,000 boxes of cookies in 2008 for
shipment by the Yellow Ribbon Girls. The Girl Scouts do help with some of the postage
but their main goal is to raise funds for their troops through the sale of more cookies.
This is were we need your help. Each box of cookies takes about 50 cents of postage. As
a small group we are continually asking for help with the postage bills. (Our regular
shipping costs each month run between $1,000.00 to $ 1,300.00) We work one month to
the next and have faith that if we are to continue this project the funds will arrive.
(sometimes JUST in time but without fail, for almost five years the day we needed the
money it has been there.)
We are not set up for PayPal but do have a checking account that is used JUST for the
purchase of supplies the troops request and postage bills. Donations can be sent
directly to the bank:

Below is a run down of the Girl Scout Cookie project from the beginning.
The first year (2003) we only had 30 boxes of cookies. The war started after the cookie
sale ends so we only had those that families gave up for the troops.
The second year ( 2004) we set our goal at 200 boxes, two for each person on our
mailing list. FROGGY (local radio station) purchased ALL 200 for us and challenged us
with "Now what is your goal? We were very thrilled to end up with 1,500 boxes that year.
In 2005 we made a BOLD statement and set our goal at 3,000 boxes. Now the Girl Scout
Offices took notice of our efforts and stepped up their involvement. That campaign
ended with 12,000 boxes. FROGGY again purchased and donated 200 boxes of cookies.
For 2006 we were AFRAID to set a goal, not wanting to double the amount and completely
over run the little church we sort, store and pack from (Ellport United Brethren Church)
We took the "Whatever we collect we will ship road" and with a lot of help the total was
almost 15,000 boxes. FROGGY ran many spots about the project and helped the Yellow
Ribbon Girls raise the needed postage funds.
In 2007 the total reached 24,000 boxes of cookies!
THANKS AGAIN,
